Leo Gagic, Executive Director Global Finance Services, Telstra

Telstra is a leading telecommunications and technology company, offering a full range of communications services and competing in all telecommunications markets. Telstra offer a broad suite of connectivity, media and content to consumers and businesses in Australia, cloud and other technology services to business, enterprise and government customers, as well as connectivity services to carriers globally.

Telstra believe the more connected people are, the more opportunities they have. For this reason the company aims to create a brilliant connected future for everyone, everyday. This has included the establishment of Telstra’s Big Data team as part of the Chief Technology Office, which is tasked with aiding the company to harness new Big Data opportunities. Through Big Data, Telstra can better understand their customers’ experience, improve the way they engage with customers and optimise operational processes. The result is improved business outcomes spanning customer advocacy, customer leads generation and process simplification, resulting in improved revenue growth and cost reduction.

Revenue Assurance, an initial project of the Big Data and Finance departments, aims to reduce revenue leakage by identifying, remedying and preventing issues that may result in billing and collection activity errors. Big Data capability was investigated as an enabler of a sophisticated, industry first, revenue assurance tool. Telstra’s Revenue Assurance tool provides access to persistent data sources allowing Finance to provide automated checks of key processes through order-to-activate, network-to-bill and bill-to-ledger systems.
