Elias Stamas, Executive General Manager, GJK Facility Services

GJK is a privately owned Australian company operating in the cleaning and related soft services industry since 1985. The company aims to make sustainability inherent within its services and are committed to providing customers with the most effective and efficient cleaning related services platform possible.

GJK strives to ensure that sustainable practices exist throughout their business model, this includes the procurement stage, where a green policy aims to ensure all materials purchases are environmentally-friendly. At a service level, processes have been designed to lower the use of water and energy, reducing the chemicals and waste released into the environment. GJK place particular emphasis on energy efficiency, which avoids unnecessary expenditure as well as reducing the CO2 emissions resulting from their practices. This is done through regular reviews of purchasing and operating processes, as well as educating staff in best practice energy saving methods.

Beyond just considering their internal energy consumption, GJK are now exploring methods of reducing energy usage within their client’s sites, furthering their sustainability commitments to the wider business community. GJK currently provides cleaning and associated services to a number of clients who have placed a heavy emphasis on ensuring that service is delivered sustainably. Through an “Opportunity for Improvement” process, areas in which environmental improvements can be made are clearly identified and can be brought to the attention of clients for discussion. This has included the development of procurement guidelines that aim to distinguish more preferable green equipment from less preferable conventional equipment used for the same purpose. The procurement guidelines are designed to set the standards that equipment must meet to be accepted as green or sustainable.
