UOW Global Enterprises
UOW Global Enterprises has been selected as an ABA100® Winner for Risk Management in The Australian Business Awards 2020. The Australian Business Award for Risk Management [RMA] recognises organisations that have achieved outstanding results through initiatives that demonstrate excellence in risk management.
UOW Global Enterprises (UOWGE) is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Wollongong (UOW) and as a commercial entity, operates unencumbered and with the agility to deliver UOW’s global aspirations. Since 1993, UOWGE has grown to become one of Australia’s most unique and successful global providers of tertiary education programs encompassing Vocational, Diploma, Associate Degree, Bachelors, Masters and PhDs delivered from their own campuses located in key international locations. It owns and operates the UOW College Australia (UOWCA), the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), the UOW College Hong Kong (UOWCHK) and UOW Malaysia KDU (UOWM KDU). These institutions spread across Wollongong, Sydney, Dubai, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Penang, delivering over 100 courses to 18,000 students. UOW’s have deliberately chosen to operate in diverse markets to de-risk exposure to any one international student population. UOWGE is a commercially focused group of companies with a capital structure of full or majority equity ownership of its locally accredited off-shore institutions. Each of these offer and invest in locally accredited in-country programs, as well as leveraging UOW Australia’s academic strengths and offering Australian qualifications in complementary disciplines.
UOWGE is built on a strong foundation of academic quality, dedicating itself to continuing to enhance the student experience and academic outcomes at all our campuses. Their committed staff across UOW’s global operations are the key to their ongoing growth and achievements. UOW’s facilitate best practice in teaching and learning across the Group, with a focus on the use of technology. UOW’s students engage and influence continuous improvement through interactive feedback mechanisms and a focus on capturing feedback at the point of experience. UOW’s distinct operating model and workplace culture has been recognised nationally and internationally. They invest in the transformation of learning environments and learning technologies to optimise student engagement and success.
The application of UOWGE’s risk management framework is a key enabler of the successful execution of its international growth strategy. The financial value created from the acquisition of UOWCHK and UOMKDU has been outstanding and has delivered very strong financial returns to UOWGE’s shareholder, UOW. UOWGE’s annual $10ml dividend to UOW has financed ground breaking health and medical research. Access was provided to a large number of high quality associate degree students across a broad number of discipline areas of which a significant number look to articulate into bachelor degree offerings. This has provided a unique opportunity for UOW to consolidate itself as a vertically integrated higher education provider. UOW will continue to deliver student-centred, stimulating programs and services to provide exceptional learning experiences.
