Ausdecom

Ausdecom has been selected as an ABA100® Winner for Community Contribution in The Australian Business Awards 2022. The Australian Business Award for Community Contribution [CCA] recognises organisations that implement initiatives that have a positive impact on the community and generate outcomes that have a long-term benefit.

“At Ausdecom we want to help prevent rather than try to cure when it comes to mental health. The outcomes for the individuals if they can find the support and assistance needed early on to prevent a mental health episode are far better than treatment after an episode and that’s if treatment is an option. A big blue excavator isn’t this support but it’s a tool that Ausdecom have used to start conversations that lead to pathways of support and assistance. Big Blue is a conversation starter and a means of raising funds for an amazing charity in Beyond Blue, the suicide rates in our industry are alarming and we are proud to support such an important cause.”

Brent Alford, General Manager, Ausdecom Recycling

Ausdecom is one of Australia’s leading providers of Decommissioning, Demolition, Environmental Remediation, Waste Management and Recycling Services. With the head office based in Victoria they self-deliver large scale projects throughout Australia.

Committed to supporting mental health in the construction industry Ausdecom will be donating 10% of the revenue generated by their Big Blue 352 excavator in 2022 to Beyond Blue.

The 50 tonne excavator, painted in Beyond Blue colours, and signs displayed at all sites with the proudly supporting Beyond Blue logo and the Beyond Blue 1300 number makes a large visual impact on project sites around Australia, reminding all that it is OK to be feeling blue and that support is only a phone call away.

Ausdecom’s General Manager of Recycling, Brent Alford, visualised the concept of painting an excavator a different colour so it would stand out on site and raise awareness in addition to donating to a good cause. In the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic the mental health of employees was a real concern and Ausdecom really wanted to make a significant difference.

The poor mental health statistics in the construction industry are well documented and as a progressive business Ausdecom wanted to get the message out that there is no stigma in talking about mental health and checking in on your mates. The concept was approved by Managing Director, Sam McKellar and the idea was born to paint an excavator and donate to a charity promoting mental health.

To make this idea a reality Ausdecom engaged William Adams their local dealership and CAT Australia along with their charity of choice, Beyond Blue, as it aligned with helping to support and change the mental health issues that exist especially within the construction industry.

Ausdecom are pleased with the impact of this venture and are hoping to raise awareness not only with their own staff but the wider community especially within the construction industry and make mental health as important as physical health.
