Civeo

Civeo has been selected as an ABA100® Winner for Community Contribution in The Australian Business Awards 2023. The Australian Business Award for Community Contribution [CCA] recognises organisations that implement initiatives that have a positive impact on the community and generate outcomes that have a long-term benefit.

Civeo is a global workforce housing and accommodation specialist dedicated to helping people maintain healthy, productive, and connected lives while living and working away from home. Civeo believes that a well-rested guest with a balanced lifestyle will be more effective at work—making the accommodation provider a key partner in the success of mining operations.

As part of Civeo’s commitment to providing great places to live, it provides guests with various ways to support their physical and mental well-being, including healthy meals, 24-hour gyms, on-site health and wellness coordinators and a calendar of events to engage guests.

Civeo provides support for community-based social programs and local economic development initiatives. Civeo engages with local councils, businesses, not-for-profits, and residents, listening to their needs meaningfully. Civeo is committed to the communities in which they operate, working in partnership to help create great places to live and work.

The Banter with a Barber program was born through a desire to connect local businesses to Civeo guests meaningfully. Trialling a program of barber visits at Civeo’s Queensland villages as part of the annual Mental Health Month campaign proved the tangible benefits increased connections to the local community could create. The program included ten visits across five Civeo locations, offering free haircuts to guests and staff. ‘Bantering’ with a barber was presented to guests as an opportunity to do something that made them happy, a chance for an engaged conversation while getting a haircut. The program was sponsored by a small business grant provided to Donna’s Barbers – a local business.

Following the successful trial of Banter with a Barber, Civeo continues to broaden opportunities to support guests’ mental well-being by connecting them with local businesses. Customer, guest and staff feedback indicated that Banter with a Barber provided guests with a welcome break from their typical routine and a chance to support their well-being while freeing up their rest and recovery time. It also established a new market for the growth of Donna’s Barbers, thereby enriching the local economy.
