Yellow Hat Consulting

Yellow Hat Consulting has been selected as an ABA100® Winner for Comms Excellence in The Australian Business Awards 2024. The Australian Business Award for Comms Excellence [COM] recognises organisations that have successfully implemented initiatives that demonstrate excellence in communications.

Yellow Hat Consulting is a female-led change, co-design and strategic communications consultancy founded by Tina Chawner in March 2021. Yellow Hat’s vision is to become known as the best in town for change. Leading people through change is the mission of Yellow Hat Consulting. Setting the standard in the design and implementation of organisational transformation, Yellow Hat was founded in 2021 to help clients build their own future – with their own hands.

Last year, Yellow Hat was engaged by a client to deliver a holistic, enterprise-wide approach to drive continuous improvement as a key cultural change within the organisation. In line with their co-design approach to change management, the Yellow Hat team worked with the Executive Leadership Team to agree the approach and design the approaches and key artefacts with staff to create well considered products with buy in and support.

As part of the change, Yellow Hat developed several communication products to support leaders and staff, including content for a full intranet site that provided guidance and practical support.

Combining the unique insights of a wide stakeholder group resulted in tangible actions across multiple processes. Three administrative processes have been implemented fully and reduced the burden on staff (translating to numerous staff hours to reallocate to more valuable tasks). The International Credit work scoped during Yellow Hat’s engagement is continuing, using the foundations Yellow Hat installed during their initial collaborative session, and is projected to save significant funding as well as increase student numbers.

In the 126 days of this engagement, Yellow Hat created a long-lasting and practical change for the University and its people. Yellow Hat demonstrated its ability to create change from the ground up by involving more than 140 staff across all areas of the business in the co-design process across ten workshops. The organisation was left with multiple tools that will deliver ongoing impact. Most importantly, a culture of co-design, transparency, and creativity is the lasting legacy that Yellow Hat has introduced. Removing barriers to collaboration and instilling the right fundamentals to strong connection are core aspects of Yellow Hat’s approach.
