Tata Consultancy Services
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been selected as an ABA100® Winner for Community Contribution in The Australian Business Awards 2025. The Australian Business Award for Community Contribution [CCA] recognises organisations that implement initiatives that have a positive impact on the community and generate outcomes that have a long-term benefit.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is a digital transformation and technology partner of choice for industry-leading organisations worldwide. Since its inception in 1968, TCS has upheld the highest standards of innovation, engineering excellence and customer service.
Rooted in the heritage of the Tata Group, TCS is committed to creating long-term value for its clients, investors, employees, and the broader community. With a highly skilled workforce of over 6,00,000 employees in 55 countries and 202 service delivery centres worldwide, the company has been recognised as a top employer on six continents. With the ability to rapidly apply and scale new technologies, the company has built long-term partnerships with its clients – helping them emerge as perpetually adaptive enterprises. Many of these relationships have endured for decades, navigating every technology cycle, from mainframes in the 1970s to Artificial Intelligence today.
TCS Empowers is TCS’s flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, which seeks to bridge opportunity gaps and foster an inclusive digital future by focusing on education, skilling, employment, entrepreneurship, and social innovation.
The widespread use of technology has transformed almost every aspect of people’s lives, yet significant education gaps remain to be addressed. The OECD predicts that 75% of the fastest-growing occupations in Australia now require skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Without these skills, the future generation will face challenges securing employment and may be economically disadvantaged. Its mission is to empower marginalised communities, particularly women, youth, and other underrepresented groups, by unlocking digital access, strengthening foundational skills, and accelerating economic mobility.
TCS leverages its core business skills and expertise, combined with technology professionals, to create an impact on STEM education in Australia. TCS are committed to empowering new digital innovators by:
- Increasing the number of students studying STEM subjects
- Inspiring more women to study STEM, therefore increasing the gender diversity in the IT industry
TCS focus on students from low socio-economic schools with fewer opportunities. These students will go on to tertiary study and eventually employment, equipping them with the right digital skills and helping them build confidence, which is beneficial to businesses and the economy.
The scope of TCS Empowers is global and multifaceted. Programs span across continents, including India, North America, Europe, and Africa, and address a wide spectrum of societal needs based on the geographical needs. The initiative supports quality education, enhances digital and financial literacy, builds career readiness in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), promotes women’s empowerment, and enables social entrepreneurship. TCS Empowers also works alongside non-profits and government partners, augmenting their reach and effectiveness with technological solutions, pro bono consulting, and digital innovation.
A distinctive feature of TCS Empowers is its ecosystem approach. It integrates resources from the business, employee volunteerism, partnerships, data-driven impact measurement, and grassroots mobilisation. Through large-scale, direct interventions and scalable digital platforms, TCS Empowers has made measurable progress toward the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of quality education, gender equality, reduced inequalities, and employment.
Within Australia, TCS has tailored the goIT programs, which involve two pathways: the goIT Digital Innovations program and the goIT Girls Work Experience, to address the gender imbalance and the growing need for the future workforce within the STEM fields by engaging students at the grassroots level. The goIT Girls Work Experience is a four-day program for Year 10–12 female students. Through interactive workshops on Agile methodology, design thinking, artificial intelligence, interviewing and presentation skills, participants build real-world skills by tackling a client’s simulated business challenge. The program culminates in a pitch event, where students showcase their solutions, gaining insight into global IT operations and outsourcing, while boosting their confidence and employability.
The goIT Digital Innovations is a free, six-module STEM programme for students in year 5-11 that introduces design thinking and guides teams to brainstorm, prototype, and optionally build mobile apps addressing real-world problems. Teachers receive flexible training and ready-to-use lesson plans, worksheets, and video tutorials, so no technical expertise is required. In addition, students are provided with the tools to deliver a hands-on app design experience using block-based coding, empowering them to prototype real-world solutions with intuitive, visual programming tools. TCS mentors also support customisation—whether paper-based or digital. The programme can be completed in over two days or spread across a month, empowering educators to cultivate a lasting culture of curiosity and innovation.
TCS believes that social change and inclusion are critical for a sustainable future and empowers communities by connecting people to opportunities in the digital economy. Its mission is to build equitable, sustainable, and inclusive pathways for youth, women, and marginalised groups. Ultimately, TCS bring together its intellectual, technology, human & financial capital to power community initiatives.
