Compass Housing Services Co Ltd (Compass) is an international community housing with a proven track record of managing a wide range of tenancies under a variety of housing programs.

Compass believes community housing is about much more than providing accommodation. It’s also about building communities. Compass’ vision is for a world in which all people have access to safe, affordable and adequate housing and are actively engaged in their communities. Compass is dedicated to making sure tenants are empowered to have their voices heard and to participate in the social and economic life of their communities. In addition to professional tenancy management, Compass delivers a range of wraparound services that help sustain tenancies as well as offering innovative tenant engagement initiatives that help foster a sense of social inclusion.

Compass understands that the best outcomes are achieved through an integrated service which understands and respects the people, place and potential of communities. Compass currently manages a total of 4514 properties across 11 locations throughout New South Wales, Queensland and New Zealand supported by a head office in Newcastle. Compass is a registered Tier 1 provider under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing and hold full accreditation under the National Community Housing Standards.

Compass prides itself on its strong dedication to training and development initiatives which are designed to maintain employee engagement and help employees develop a rewarding long-term career path. In providing ongoing investment in employees’ professional development both financially and with paid study leave Compass continues to support its employees to achieve their aspirations while contributing to the wider community and its workforce. Over the past 12 months in line with our strategic plan, Compass has focused on learning and development initiatives which relating to workforce planning and developing the skills and knowledge of its frontline workers and through targeted and funded training programs.

In consultation with the training provider – Forsythes Training, Compass applied for and was successful in securing $52 000 funding through the NSW Governments Smart & Skilled initiative. This funding enabled Compass to enrol 26 employees in a partial qualification in the Nationally Recognised Certificate IV Leadership and Management course. To maximise learning outcomes due to the large number of participants (26), the program was run concurrently in two groups of 13.

The Emerging Leaders Program was delivered as a blended program with employees attending 10 face to face workshops and submitting assessment tasks via online assessment the online student portal. Compass provided employees with support throughout the training by providing paid leave to attend the face to face workshops and opportunities to use their new skills in the workplace.

Throughout the program, Forsythes provided Compass with regular Student Progress Tracking Reports. This enabled Compass to track the employee’s progress in the program and to provide additional support and assistance as required to ensure that the learning outcomes were achieved.
