Staff shortages have been a problem for most sectors given the issues related to Covid lockdowns and restrictions, and international borders being closed. Emerging from two years of difficulties, Finite knew that staff attraction, engagement and retention had never been as important this year. Enhanced training and development were therefore identified as being key, offering mutual benefits to employee and employer.

The reputation of recruiters is often undermined by what is considered a saturated industry where training is unstructured and mainly on the job. As a result, the quality of recruiters varies enormously across the industry.

Finite recognised that by implementing an improved L&D program, the credibility of staff and consistency in service would increase. An objective was therefore put in place to set a minimum standard of knowledge and training for all Finite staff to raise the industry benchmark.

The strategy was to engage with our industry association, APSCo, but Finite discovered their training program was outdated, full of old terminology and not user-friendly. In addition, it was part of a certification program with very low industry uptake and even less credibility.

Finite partnered with APSCo to update and improve the program and ensure the certification provided real value and credibility throughout the industry.

Once the program had been re-developed, it was embedded into Finite’s onboarding system, sitting on a secure online portal and compulsory for all Finite employees.

All staff inducted since the program was implemented are now compliant with relevant working practices and legislation. We are proud in having been part of the program enhancement setting a new benchmark for the industry. We can report that the enhanced quality of the certification has also led to a substantial increase in the program uptake.
