With an estimated 100,000 pets being killed in Australian pounds annually, it’s imperative for us as a pet-loving community to take measures to keep pets out of the pound system.

In early 2020, the pandemic provided an opportunity to fast track a big idea that quickly turned into a successful program. Home2Home is a program designed by PetRescue to empower pet owners to find a new homes for their pets, helping to slow the flow of pets entering rescue and ensuring that the pet is in a stress-free environment until they transition to a new home.

An alternative to surrendering, Home2Home leverages PetRescue’s technical capabilities, personnel expertise and massive online reach to create a safe digital pathway for pet owners to find a home for their pets directly.

Once listed on PetRescue, in front of the 30,000 potential adopters that visit PetRescue.com.au daily, pet owners will be able to converse with potential adopters, arrange meet-and-greets, and finally select the perfect human/family for their pet. This option also benefits shelters and rescue groups who are already facing high volumes of intake and mostly at capacity.

Today, almost two years after the launch of the program, they’re seeing the impact it has had on pet owners across the country, and how it continues to serve as a lifeboat for scores of pet owners and their pets.
